Daniel Downey (1922-2014)

Co-founder Daniel Downey graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1944 from the University of Notre Dame, majoring in philosophy and accounting. He returned to West Palm Beach and worked at the Himes & Himes accounting firm in the late 1940s as a CPA. Thereafter, he attended the University of Miami School of Law, obtaining his Juris Doctorate degree, Cum Laude, in 1955.

Daniel was a member of the Palm Beach County Bar Association for over 50 years. He served on numerous local organizations and boards over the years in Palm Beach County, including as the past President of the Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Downtown Development Authority, and was a former board member of Florida Public Utilities.

Daniel represented families throughout Palm Beach County for over 50 years. He enjoyed practicing law with his brother James C. Downey prior to James serving on the Circuit Court bench and for 27 years on the Fourth District Court of Appeal for Palm Beach County.

Daniel was the father of eight children, including his son Edward with whom he enjoyed practicing law for over 20 years at Downey & Downey, P.A. After a long and successful legal career and life, Daniel died in 2014, but his daily example of devotion to his clients and stellar character continue to serve as the pole star for the lawyers of the firm.
