Daniel graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Notre Dame, majoring in philosophy and accounting. He returned to West Palm Beach and worked at the Himes & Himes accounting firm in the late 40’s and achieved his CPA certification. Thereafter, he attended the University of Miami Law School and received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Miami, Cum Laude in 1955.
Daniel was a member of the Palm Beach County Bar Association for over 50 years.
Daniel served on numerous organizations and boards over the years in Palm Beach County, including the Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce (of which he is a Past President), the Downtown Development Board, and a former Board Member for the Florida Public Utilities Company.
Daniel represented individuals and families throughout Palm Beach County for over 50 years in business and Estate matters, and currently focuses his practice on estate planning and estate administration.
Daniel enjoyed practicing law with his brother James C. Downey at the predecessor firm of Paty & Downey, prior to James serving on the Circuit Court Bench and for 27 years on the Fourth District Court of Appeal for Palm Beach County. Daniel is the father of eight children, including his son Edward with whom he practiced law until his passing in 2014.
